Job Description

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is currently considering applicants for the position of Project Archivist.  This position reports to the Director of Archives and is responsible for processing over 500 archival collections and creating finding aids at the folder- and item-level. This is a temporary 2-year NHPRC grant-funded position that requires specialized archival work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:                     

  1. Arrange and describe over 500 archival collections at the folder- and item-level, some of which will include linking series- or folder-level description to object descriptions that already exist in the institution’s collection management system.
  1. Rehouse materials for preservation purposes as needed.

  2. Advise on project status, recommend solutions to any issues that arise, and provide information regarding the project and collections as required for outreach and reporting purposes.
  1. Work with other archives staff, interns, and volunteers to keep the project to the pre-approved timeline.
  1. Make recommendations for exhibition and digitization.
  1. Test workflows and advise on best practices for the Rock Hall’s new collection management system.

Duties include but may not be limited to the above.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master’s degree in library or information science with a specialty in archives is required. 
  • Three years archival processing experience, preferably in an academic, special library, or museum environment.
  • Knowledge of archival standards and best practices.
  • Experience using Axiell’s Adlib, Archivist’s Toolkit, ArchivesSpace, or another archival or museum collection management system.
  • Familiarity with current trends in archival preservation.
  • Familiarity with copyright issues associated with archival materials preferred.
  • Knowledge of rock and roll history and related popular music genres.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Computer literate in standard office management software, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Outstanding team orientation, flexibility, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented with ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines on large projects.
  • Thinks of the big picture and considers the impact of decisions across the institution, department or project as a whole.
  • Encourages teamwork and anticipates and removed obstacles to effective teamwork; seeks to resolve conflicts as they arise.
  • Approaches others in a positive manner and builds solid long-term relationship with key stakeholders inside and outside the organization.
  • Appropriately share information with staff members, ensuring that they and other key contacts across the organization are kept abreast of initiatives, issues and events internally as well as externally.
  • Involves staff in various processes to share information and provide input on policies and practices; solicits ideas and opinions to help shape specific decisions or plans.
  • Ability to successfully pass a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum reference check, background investigation and drug screening.
  • Computer Literate:  Microsoft Products; Database Management System.
  • Ability to get along with other people.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Ability to work 40 hours per week; any shift as assigned, including evenings, weekends and holidays.  Ability to work additional hours as workload demands.  Hours are primarily 8:30 am – 5:30 pm Monday through Friday.
