List of Previous Goals and Progress Made

  • We have had a goal of publishing a book a year. We haven’t quite made it, but we’re very proud of the volumes we have published and are forthcoming:
    • 2018 Ideas, Strategies, and Scenarios in Music Information Literacy edited by Kathleen A. Abromeit
    • 2019 Outreach for Music Librarians edited by Scott Stone
    • 2021 Binding and Care of Printed Music, second edition by Alice Carl
    • 2022 (forthcoming) Music Collection Development and Management in the Digital Age by Kirstin Johnson
    • 2023 (forthcoming) Reframing Twenty-First Century Music Libraries: Reflections and Imaginings by Laura Thompson and Grace Haynes.
  • One goal in MLA’s Strategic Plan is to increase outreach efforts to members from underrepresented groups. The Basic Manual Series newly developed topic area, “Belonging in Music Libraries” relates directly to this goal. We have been soliciting proposals but have been unsuccessful in securing an author for a single-author book. As a result, I put out a call for a multi-author volume. My co-editor, Dyani Sabin, and I secured contributors for a twelve-chapter volume, Belonging in Music Libraries: Bringing DEIA to Critical Music Information Literacy. Currently, the proposal is under review by A-R Editions and has been approved by the BMS Editorial Board.

List of Future Goals

  • Meet our desire to publish a book in the series each year
    • Continue soliciting for new volumes and helping authors achieve their publishing goals.
  • Assist in securing a new BMS Editor and Editorial Board
  • Help with their onboarding where appropriate.
