List of Previous Goals and Progress Made

  • Create materials (brochure, elevator pitch, video, or other useful formats) addressing the questions “Why does our institution need a music librarian?” and “Why does our institution need a music cataloger?”
    • Began collecting talking points in a shared document
  • Reach out to the Theatre Library Association, seeking common concerns and opportunities for collaboration
    • TLA President Francesca Marini accepted our invitation to join our committee meeting and we had a productive discussion.
  • Maintain our Humanities Commons site, adding advocacy resources on a monthly basis
    • The HC Music Library Advocacy group currently has 61 members.  We have so far added six links to advocacy resources in 2021, posting each to MLA-L as the “Advocacy Resource of the Month.”

List of Future Goals

  • Continue outreach/collaboration with the Theatre Library Association
    • STRATEGIC PLAN: Engage with Other Fine Arts Professional Organizations to Pursue
      Collaborations for Meetings, Education, and Advocacy.
    • This is an ongoing goal, building on the foundations that we laid at our 2021 committee meeting
  • Represent MLA’s interests at meetings of the Library Futures Coalition
    • STRATEGIC PLAN: Engage with Other Fine Arts Professional Organizations to Pursue
      Collaborations for Meetings, Education, and Advocacy.
    • The chair of the Music Library Advocacy Committee has been asked by the Board to receive and disseminate calls from the LFC listserv, and one or more committee members attends their virtual meetings
  • Create materials (brochure, elevator pitch, video, or other useful formats) addressing the questions “Why does our institution need a music librarian?” and “Why does our institution need a music cataloger?”
    • STRATEGIC PLAN: Develop and sustain the necessary resources to ensure the vitality of the Association, its programs and services.
    • This is a continuing goal that we expect to bring to completion by the end of 2022.
