List of Previous Goals and Progress Made

  1. Complete and submit the Preservation Committee segment, having to do with printing and binding, of a larger multi-committee white paper on guidelines libraries deal with scores received as electronic files (this was a 2021 goal, completed in 2022).
    • The segment is complete; it is being tweaked while waiting on completion of the other sub-working group segments.

List of Future Goals

  1. Contribute an article on The State of Music Library Preservation to the September 2023 special issue of Notes.
    • This would squarely support Objective 1.1 (Review and update MLA’s Mission and Core Values to reflect MLA’s priorities and promote a culture of inclusivity, innovation, collaboration, and information sharing).
    • Several members are collaborating on the article; since the specific requirement is for a brief, engaging overview, the work is likely to also spawn a more in-depth article for another issue as well.
  2. Overhaul the Preservation Committee web page.
    • This project is intended both to facilitate communications within the Preservation Committee and MLA, and for outreach to libraries, so it will involve multiple objectives of the Strategic Plan (1.1-1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 2.3-2.4, 2.6, 3.4-3.5, 4.1-4.3).
    • Given the need for informed design and to work within the larger context of the MLA site, we are not hurrying with this project, which will likely take 2 years to complete, and must include plans for ongoing maintenance after that. The working group within the Committee includes one member of the MLA Web Committee, and is considering specific goals of our page while we wait to find out more about the logistics of creating and uploading updates.
