List of Previous Goals and Progress Made

  • 1. Reboot Dormant Committee
    • As of September 2023, the committee has 5 active members. Efforts to recruit during the 2024 Annual Meeting are being discussed.
  • 2. Launch Ask an Archivist
    • Ask an Archivist has been launched and is being used. We will be making additional plans to promote the service.

List of Future Goals

  • 1. Work on best practices for description of archival recordings
    • This goal supports the MLA Strategic Plan by providing leadership for the collection and preservation of music of all kinds and information about music in libraries and archives and ensuring and enhancing intellectual access to music for all by contributing to the development and revision of national and international standards and vocabularies for the description, organization, and retrieval of music information.
    • The committee will begin aggregating member’s in-house policies relating to such description and contact other committee in professional organizations of a similar kind to review their information.
  • 2. Sponsor a presentation at the 2024 Annual Meeting.
    • This goal supports the MLA Strategic Plan by providing an inclusive forum for music information professionals and other scholars and researchers to discuss relevant topics in the field.
    • This committee in conjunction with other committees is sponsoring a presentation by Matthew Snyder about his work with the digitization of the George Avakian and Anahid Ajemian papers at the Music Division of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.
