List of Previous Goals and Progress Made

  • 1. To establish and maintain a group that can speak for catalogers of audiovisual materials. Audiovisual materials include, but are not limited to, sound and video recordings, electronic resources, three-dimensional artifacts and realia, kits, and graphic and cartographic materials.
  • 2. To provide a means for exchange of information about the cataloging of audiovisual materials.
  • 3. To provide a means of continuing education for catalogers of audiovisual materials.
  • 4. To provide a means of communication among catalogers of audiovisual materials.
  • 5. To work toward common understanding of audiovisual cataloging practices and standards.
  • 6. To provide a means of communication and advocacy with the Library of Congress, bibliographic utilities, and other organizations.

List of Future Goals

  • 1. Foster communication between OLAC and MLA
    • Communicate all events, development of best practice documents, and access to career development and continuing education resources via organizational listservs.
    • This goal supports the missions of providing an inclusive forum, collaboration with other groups, and delivering programs for continuing education and professional development.
    • This goal exhibits the values of collaboration and community.
    • This goal supports the objectives of cultivating mutually beneficial relationships between organizations–specifically MLA and OLAC; exploring educational and networking opportunities between the organizations and strengthening communication by participating in the community outside of MLA.
  • 2. Provide reports on each organizations’ events
    • (see above for this goal’s support of missions, values, and objectives in the strategic plan)
    • Providing detailed reports on notes for events that members are not able to attend in-person or virtually.
    • Enabling communication and inclusivity for members that are unable to attend.
  • 3. Resource sharing
    • Identify opportunities for sharing resources, such as documents, facilities, programs, etc.
    • Promotes collaboration between the organizations and supports continuing education.
  • 4. Exploring potential partnerships for collaboration with their executive board
    • Promotes collaboration, could potentially facilitate knowledge exchange, project partnerships enabling networking, and possible advocacy efforts performed by the organizations’ goals for diversity and inclusion
