List of Previous Goals and Progress Made

  • 1. Develop sustainable workflows, workloads, and documentation for managing the Music Instruction & Pedagogy Repository.
    • The Music Instruction & Pedagogy Repository has faced challenges in workflow because of available time and labor. To improve this, we have recently recruited new members to the working group and are preparing these members to undertake peer review of submissions.
  • 2. Complete data analysis and development of a draft of a Companion for Music for the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education.
    • The Framework Working Group has completed the Music Companion to the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
      • A version was submitted as a chapter for the forthcoming ACRL volume Teaching Information Literacy by Discipline: Using and Creating Adaptations of the Framework (eds. Malia Wiley and Scott Libson)
      • A draft of the Companion is prepared for submission to the Board for adoption in October.
      • Data analysis based on our interviews with faculty continues. Preliminary results helped inform the creation of the Companion.
  • 3. Extend the pilot for the Instruction Consultation Service through AY23.
    • The pilot has continued, but usage remains low.

List of Future Goals

  • 1. Share the new Companion with MLA members, other library colleagues, and music faculty, beginning with a presentation at MLA 2024 and continuing with a  professional development workshop and presentations at other library and music studies conferences. By sharing this document within MLA and with members in other organizations we will:
    • Support members working in various disciplines within an organization that also includes aspects of music librarianship. (Objective 2.4)
    • Promote MLA as being an Association that will advocate for our profession, our members, our users, our institutions and for diversity. (Objective 2.6)
  • 2. Extend the pilot for the Instruction Consultation Service through AY24. In AY24, we will reevaluate the structure and audience for the service, considering alternative formats for offering point-of-need support for instruction in order to:
    • Develop and sustain the necessary resources to ensure the vitality of the Association, its programs and services. (Objective 1.1)
    • Explore educational and networking opportunities beyond annual and chapter conferences. (Objective 2.3)
    • Support members working in various disciplines within an organization that also includes aspects of music librarianship. (Objective 2.4)
  • 3. Continue to develop sustainable workflows, workloads, and documentation for managing the Music Instruction & Pedagogy Repository in order to:
    • Develop and sustain the necessary resources to ensure the vitality of the Association, its programs and services. (Objective 1.1)
    • Pursue joint ventures with other organizations that offer financial as well as professional opportunities and advantages. (Objective 1.1)
