Member Survey Due August 16th

MLA has been invited to participate in the 2027 joint meeting of IAML (International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres) and CAML (Canadian Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres) to be held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, June 20-26. Members of the MLA Board of Directors are excited about exploring the possibility to participate in a joint meeting. This opportunity is closely related to our Strategic Plan—Goal Area 4: Strengthen Communication, Objective 4.5: Participate in the community of music librarianship existing outside of MLA.

With this in mind, the Planning Committee has created a short survey to gauge the membership’s interest in pursuing a joint meeting. (See link below)

Before submitting your survey, we can offer the following to inform your decision:

The required annual business meeting of the membership, committee meetings, IG meetings, and chapter meetings:
• Will take place during the “usual” MLA meeting time—late February/early March.
• All meetings will be virtual.
• Because the business meeting is required by our constitution and by-laws and the other meetings have been open in the past, there will be no registration fee.

Programmatic content:

• Any plenaries, presentations, panels, poster board sessions, etc., will be rolled into the overall program of the joint meeting (MLA will participate in the meeting’s planning phases).
• The meeting will be hybrid.
• Although fees have not been set yet, we do expect in-person and virtual attendees will both be required to pay a registration fee.
• Meeting dates are already set for: June 20-26, 2027; this will overlap with ALA’s 2027 meeting, New Orleans, June 24-29, 2027.
• The University of Toronto will be our host and there is a possibility of using university student housing for attendees.
