MLA California Chapter Meeting 2024

The Music Library Association’s California Chapter (MLACC) Program Committee will be holding its annual meeting in-person at the University of California, Los Angeles on Sunday, November 3 – Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Registration will be $20 for regular members and free for students with a student ID. Payment will be accepted in cash or check at the door. Please register by Friday, October 18th, 2024 using this Google Form.

For more information about the conference and local accommodations, please visit the 2024 Annual Meeting Website.

For planning purposes, we will be holding our meeting in the Young Research Library Conference Room and Presentation Room along with the Music Library. Parking is available on campus for $10 along with some street parking in the nearby Westwood neighborhood.

The conference will begin with a concert on Sunday evening at 7pm by Bent Frequency, co-sponsored with UCLA Music Library and led by Professor Jan Barry Baker followed by a reception in the Music Library. There will also be optional activities on Tuesday, November 5th, however we recognize that this is also Election Day and will therefore not have any presentations scheduled that day. We encourage all members to vote via mail-in ballot ahead of time to ensure their participation in this important election. A more detailed schedule will be published online and disseminated October 4, 2024.

Additionally, the Programming Committee is now accepting proposals for the upcoming Meeting, which should be submitted by Friday, September 20, 2024 via this online form.

Proposals should include a title and brief abstract (ca. 100-250 words). Proposed presentations may fit into a traditional 30-minute, 45-minute, or 1-hour time slot; submitters may also propose an alternate format such as a panel discussion, a poster, a paper, a round of lightning talks, an interactive session, or something completely different.  We invite topics that reflect the diversity of our profession and within our field(s), including, but not limited to, aspects of music librarianship related to collection development / management, instruction, cataloging and metadata, outreach, public services, archival and preservation work, music scholarship, social justice, and/or critical librarianship, or similar topics across interdisciplinary areas such as dance, theater, film, art, design, or other fields.

Please note that presenters and co-presenters are required to register for the MLACC meeting, even if only for a single day. We are hoping to record these presentations for those who may wish to attend virtually, but at this time are planning a solely in-person meeting.
