INFO 5367, Music Librarianship & Information Services: This class covers a wide range of topics designed to equip students with the skills necessary for working in and managing a music library. Students will gain experience with the essential bibliographic tools of music libraries and learn about the history of music librarianship in the United States and its major figures. Reference assignments will familiarize students with the variety of challenges encountered in answering library patrons’ questions. Students will become familiar with the authoritative editions of works by major composers, and with the important journals in the field of music librarianship. Other subjects covered include special collections, digitization and metadata, cataloging, collection development, and outreach.

Students may take MUMH 5010 – Introduction to Research in Music or INFO 5080 – Research Methods and Analysis. Other alternative elective courses may be selected from the catalog or transferred from other programs with the approval of the academic advisor.
